MySQL AIops MCP server

by AIops-tools

Ask your AI to look at your MySQL or MariaDB database and explain slow queries, locks and replica lag, using the real numbers.

This is a helper for people who look after MySQL or MariaDB databases. It plugs into your AI assistant so you can ask about your database in plain words and get answers that point at the actual measurements, not a vague guess. It is most useful for database administrators and anyone who gets called when a database starts misbehaving.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your database or do anything there. An MCP server is a small helper program you connect once, and it gives your AI a new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to your MySQL or MariaDB server, so when you ask about a slow query or a stuck session, the AI can go and look and then report back to you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question in normal words, such as why a query is slow. The AI uses this helper, which connects to your database with the account details you set up during installation. The helper reads the database's own built-in statistics views and, for some jobs, asks the server how it would run a query. It then builds a short analysis: the measured numbers behind the problem, a likely cause, and a suggested next step. If you ask it to make a change, it can do that too, and it writes down what it did.

What you can do with it

  • Find your slowest query patterns and see why they are slow, with the measured numbers attached
  • See who is blocking whom when sessions are stuck, and who the root blocker is
  • Explain what happened in the last deadlock
  • Check whether a replica is behind, and why
  • Spot tables that waste space and are good candidates for tidying up
  • Look at current connections, long-running queries and lock waits
  • Create or drop an index, or stop a stuck session, with a preview first

Try asking your AI

  • “Why is my database slow right now?”
  • “Which query is the worst offender, and what should I do about it?”
  • “Who is blocking whom in my current lock waits?”
  • “Is my replica lagging, and what is causing it?”

What it gives back to you

Mostly you get back a short plain-language summary with the numbers behind it: how many rows a query scanned, how long locks were held, how far behind a replica has fallen. The helper also names a likely cause and a concrete next action, so you are not left guessing. When it makes a change, it tells you what it did and whether an undo was recorded. Every call it makes is written to a log file on your own computer.

Before you start

What you need

  • The uv tool installed (the helper is started with a command called uvx)
  • A MySQL 8.x or MariaDB 10.6 or newer server that your computer can reach
  • A database account and its password; a read-only account is enough if you only want advice
  • An app that supports MCP servers, such as the Claude desktop app or Claude Code

Install it with your AI

Add MySQL AIops MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check MySQL AIops MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
