Cursor Delegate MCP server

by andreilungeanu

Lets your AI hand coding work to Cursor's agent and get back the changed files and a summary.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Fix the failing tests in my project”, on your own computer the Cursor Delegate MCP server works with cursor's coding agent, and you get back changed files and a summary.

This is a small helper that lets your AI assistant pass coding work over to Cursor's command line agent. You ask your assistant to make a change, it writes a short brief, Cursor does the actual editing across your files, and your assistant reads the result back to you. It is handy if you already use Cursor and want your main AI to stay in charge of the thinking while Cursor does the typing.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one connects your AI to Cursor's command line agent, so when you ask for a code change, your AI can hand the job over and get the finished work back. Think of it as a bridge between the assistant you talk to and the tool that actually edits your files.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI to change something in your project, like updating a group of files or fixing tests. Your AI writes a short brief describing the job and sends it through this helper to Cursor's agent. Cursor works through the files in your project folder and makes the edits. When it is done, the helper sends back a clean result: the final message, the list of files that changed, a session id, and the plan it followed. Your AI then reads that back to you so you can review what happened.

What you can do with it

  • Delegate a multi-file code change to Cursor's agent
  • Ask Cursor to draft a plan first, then implement it in the same session
  • Ask questions about your codebase and get answers back
  • Get a list of the files that were changed
  • Resume a session if Cursor needs a clarifying answer
  • Run a check that tells you what is missing if setup is not right

What it gives back to you

You get a compact result in the chat: the final message from Cursor, the list of files it changed, a session id, and the plan it followed. If Cursor needs to ask you something, it ends its turn and returns the question as a normal result, and your AI can answer by resuming the same session. Nothing is hidden in a popup or waiting screen.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 20 or newer
  • The Cursor CLI installed and logged in (run cursor-agent login)
  • An MCP client like Claude Code, ChatGPT/Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI, or another tool that supports MCP servers

Good to know

This helper lets Cursor's agent edit files in your project folder, so review the changed files it reports back before you keep or commit them.
