Brightspace D2L MCP server
Ask your AI about Brightspace deadlines, grades, assignments and announcements, using your own student sign-in.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your school's Brightspace (also called D2L). Once it is set up, you can ask plain questions about your courses instead of clicking through every page. It is made for students who use Brightspace every day and want a quicker way to keep track of things.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to your Brightspace account, so it can look up your courses, deadlines and grades for you when you ask. It runs quietly on your own computer and only talks to your school's Brightspace.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like what is due this week. The AI passes that question to this helper. The helper signs in to Brightspace the same way you do in your browser, and reads the pages you can already see. Then it hands the answer back to your AI, which explains it to you in the chat. It only reads. It cannot submit, post or change anything.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- See what is due soon, overdue, or not open yet across all your courses
- Check which assignments you have already submitted and which are still waiting
- Look up your grades with points, percentages and instructor comments
- Read announcements your instructors posted
- Find lecture slides, handouts and other course files
- Read assignment instructions and rubrics
- See discussion posts and who your instructors and TAs are
Try asking your AI
- “What should I work on right now?”
- “What is due this week?”
- “What are my grades?”
- “Did any professor post something today?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, in normal sentences. It can list your deadlines, show your grades, summarize an announcement, or read out the instructions and rubric for an assignment. If you ask, it can also save a course file to a folder you choose.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 20 or newer installed on your computer
- Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
- Your school's Brightspace sign-in details (you type them into your school's own page, nothing is stored)
Good to know
It is read-only, so it cannot submit or change anything, but it can read your grades, course files and class list, so only connect it on a computer you trust.
