Augments MCP server

by augmnt

Lets your AI look up fresh documentation and examples for popular coding frameworks while you work.

Augments is a helper that gives your AI assistant up-to-date documentation for coding frameworks like React, Next.js, Vue, Prisma and many others. Instead of guessing from old training data, your AI can pull real signatures, explanations and code examples on demand. It is handy for developers and anyone who writes code with an AI assistant and wants answers that match the current version.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to live documentation sources for npm packages, so when you ask about a framework, the AI can fetch the real docs and examples instead of making things up. You do not need to understand how it works under the hood, you just ask your question and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like how to use useEffect cleanup in React. The AI passes your question to the Augments helper. The helper looks up the package on npm and GitHub, finds the relevant types, documentation and code examples, and shapes them for your kind of question. The AI then shows you a short, focused answer in the chat, with the signature, a bit of explanation and a working example.

What you can do with it

  • Look up API signatures, explanations and examples for almost any npm package
  • Search across frameworks by concept, like state management or form handling
  • Compare versions of a package and see what changed between them
  • Get a migration guide when you upgrade from one major version to another
  • Diagnose a confusing error message and get hints on what to fix
  • Compare two or more packages side by side on size, downloads and APIs
  • Scan your project file to spot outdated, deprecated or insecure dependencies

Try asking your AI

  • “How do I use useEffect cleanup in React?”
  • “Show me how to set up zustand with middleware”
  • “What changed between Next.js 14 and 15?”
  • “Why am I getting Objects are not valid as a React child?”
  • “Compare zod, yup and joi for form validation”

What it gives back to you

You get back a short, readable answer in the chat: a code signature, a plain explanation and one or two examples, sized to fit your question. For version or migration questions you get a list of breaking changes and new features. For error questions you get likely causes and fixes. For package comparisons you get a small table of facts like size, downloads and stars.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer (the free runtime that runs the helper)
  • The Claude Code app or another AI tool that supports MCP servers
  • Optional: a GitHub token (a kind of password from GitHub) to avoid hitting rate limits when fetching examples

Good to know

It reads public package information from npm and GitHub, so avoid pasting private code or secrets into your questions if you are not sure how your AI tool handles them.

Install it with your AI

Add Augments MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Augments MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
