Backblaze B2 MCP server
by backblaze-labs · official
Let your AI look at and manage your Backblaze B2 cloud storage files, buckets and keys for you.

This is the official helper from Backblaze that connects your AI assistant to your Backblaze B2 cloud storage. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to list your buckets, upload a file, or make a download link. It is handy for anyone who keeps backups or files in Backblaze B2 and would rather ask than click around.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to your Backblaze B2 storage. When you ask something like "list my buckets", your AI passes the request to this helper, the helper talks to Backblaze on your behalf, and the answer comes back into the chat. You install it once, and from then on your AI can work with your B2 account when you ask it to.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in your AI chat, like listing files or uploading something. Your AI sends that request to this helper program. The helper signs in to your Backblaze B2 account using the key you gave it, and does the work there. Then it sends the result back, and your AI shows it to you in the chat. Some actions, like deleting files, are held back and need your confirmation first.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the buckets your key can access
- Upload a file from your computer to a B2 bucket
- Download or copy files stored in B2
- Create a temporary download link for a file
- List files under a folder-like prefix
- Create and manage application keys
- Check storage growth and find your largest files
Try asking your AI
- “List the buckets this key can access.”
- “Upload ./data.csv to reports/may-2026.csv.”
- “Give me a 1-hour download link for backups/latest.tar.gz.”
- “List files under logs/2026/.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers right in the chat: lists of buckets or files, short summaries, download links you can click, and numbers like storage size or growth. When it uploads, copies, or deletes something, it tells you what it did. For structured results it usually shows them as plain text you can read, not as a file you have to open.
Before you start
What you need
- A Backblaze B2 account
- A Backblaze B2 application key (a kind of password for apps; you make one in your B2 account, a non-master key is enough)
- Node.js version 22.22.2 or newer (or 24 or 26)
- An AI app that supports MCP, like the Claude desktop app
Good to know
It can change or delete things in your B2 storage, so check before you approve anything destructive, and keep in mind that creating keys produces real passwords you should store safely.
Install it with your AI

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Backblaze B2 MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who stores files or backups in Backblaze B2 and wants to manage them by asking their AI instead of clicking through a web console.
