Cluefinch MCP server
by cluefinch
Lets your AI search the web, read pages in pieces, and gather research from many sources.
Cluefinch is a free helper that gives your AI a way to work with the web. It can search, open pages, follow links, and pull together information from several places. It is handy if you use your AI for research, fact checking, or reading long documents.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. Cluefinch is that helper, and it connects your AI to the web. Once it is set up, your AI can search and read pages for you when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question that needs web information. The AI uses Cluefinch to run a search and get a list of links. Then it opens the pages it thinks look useful and reads the text. If a page is long, it reads only the parts it needs, piece by piece. It can also follow links inside a page to reach related sections or other sources, and it can collect material from several sources at once. At the end, it uses what it gathered to answer you.
What you can do with it
- Search the web and get a list of useful links
- Read a web page and turn it into clean text
- Read long pages in small chunks instead of all at once
- Follow links inside a page to reach related sections
- Gather material from several sources in one go
- Skip duplicate pages that lead to the same content
- Keep track of which source each piece of information came from
Try asking your AI
- “Search the web for recent news about electric car battery prices and summarize what you find”
- “Open this page and tell me what it says about refunds: https://example.com/help”
- “Find three reliable sources about the health effects of standing desks and compare them”
- “Look through this documentation site and explain how to set up the first project”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, built from what the AI found and read. It can give you summaries, lists of sources, key points from long documents, and comparisons across several pages. It can also show you which links it used so you can check them yourself. The AI decides how deep to go based on what you asked.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.12.4 or newer installed on your computer
- A SearXNG search instance, which is a small search program you run yourself (the project includes an example setup using Docker)
- Docker with Docker Compose support if you want to use the included SearXNG example
- An AI tool that supports local MCP servers, like Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or VS Code with GitHub Copilot
Good to know
It reads public web pages and follows links, so make sure you are comfortable with your AI browsing the sites you point it at.
Install it with your AI
Add Cluefinch MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Cluefinch MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who use their AI for research, fact checking, or reading long documents and want it to look things up on the web.
