Elekto MCP for SQL Server

by elekto-com-br

Lets your AI read your SQL Server database structure and data, so it can answer questions about your tables and queries.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a SQL Server database so the AI can look at your tables, views, procedures and data for you. It is handy if you work with a .NET project and want help understanding a database without digging through it by hand. It only reads. It never changes anything in your database.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to a SQL Server database, so when you ask a question about your tables or data, the AI can go look it up and come back with an answer. You set it up once, and after that it just works quietly in the background.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your database, like which tables hold a certain column or how a stored procedure is written. The AI passes your question to this helper. The helper talks to your SQL Server using a connection it reads from your project's appsettings.json or web.config file, so you do not have to paste a password into the chat. It brings back the schema, the definitions, the row counts or the actual data, and your AI turns that into a plain answer for you. It can also tell you which permissions your login is missing and what to ask your database administrator for.

What you can do with it

  • List the databases and schemas you have configured
  • Show the columns, keys and indexes of any table
  • Find every table that has a column with a certain name
  • Read the full text of a stored procedure, view or function
  • Profile a column to see nulls, distinct values and top values
  • Spot duplicate or unused indexes and missing-index suggestions
  • Compare the structure of two databases side by side
  • Run a read-only query against a table with filters and sorting

Try asking your AI

  • “Which tables have a column called CustomerId?”
  • “Show me the definition of the stored procedure usp_GetMonthlySales”
  • “How many rows are in the Orders table and what does its schema look like?”
  • “Compare the schema of the Dev and Prod databases and tell me what differs”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat: lists of tables or columns, the text of a procedure, row counts, small tables of data, or a summary of what your login can and cannot see. If a query returns too many rows, it tells you it was cut short. If something goes wrong, it explains what happened and how to fix it instead of just failing silently.

Before you start

What you need

  • A SQL Server 2017 or newer database you can reach
  • A login on that database with read access
  • Your connection details in appsettings.json, web.config or a connections file
  • The .NET SDK installed if you want to run it as a dotnet tool

Good to know

Whatever the AI reads from your database is sent to the AI provider, so do not connect it to databases with sensitive or personal data unless you have checked that this is allowed.

Install it with your AI

Add Elekto MCP for SQL Server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
