n8n Manager MCP server
by ellmos-ai
Let your AI create, edit, run, and back up your n8n workflows for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to n8n, the tool people use to build automations by connecting blocks together. Once it is set up, you can just tell your AI what you want and it will look at, change, or run your workflows for you. It is handy if you already use n8n and would rather type a request than click around the editor.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see or touch anything outside the conversation. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case the ability to work with n8n. You install it once, your AI talks to it, and it passes your requests to your n8n account and brings the answers back.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your n8n workflows, like listing them or changing one. The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper talks to your n8n account using its normal web address and your login key. Before it changes or deletes anything, it saves a copy of the workflow first, so you can go back. Then it makes the change and tells the AI what happened, and the AI tells you.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all your n8n workflows
- Create a new workflow from a description
- Edit or rename an existing workflow
- Run a workflow and check the result
- Look at past runs and see what failed
- Save a backup copy before any change
- Switch between your test and live n8n setups
Try asking your AI
- “Show me all my n8n workflows and what they do”
- “Create a new workflow that sends me an email every morning at 8”
- “Run my invoice workflow and tell me if it worked”
- “Why did my last run of the customer sync workflow fail”
What it gives back to you
You get plain answers in the chat: lists of workflows with their names and status, short summaries of what a workflow contains, and results from runs, like whether it succeeded or where it stopped. When it changes something, it tells you what it did and where the backup copy was saved. It can also show you the details of individual steps inside a workflow.
Before you start
What you need
- An n8n account, either on your own computer or in the cloud
- The web address of your n8n instance
- An API key from n8n (a kind of password the app gives you so other programs can talk to it)
- Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
Good to know
It can change, run, and delete your workflows, so turn on read-only mode if you only want it to look, and keep backups of anything important.
Install it with your AI
Add n8n Manager MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check n8n Manager MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who already use n8n for automations and want to manage their workflows by chatting with an AI instead of clicking through the editor.
