Let your AI manage Nginx Proxy Manager hosts, certificates, and access lists for you.
This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Nginx Proxy Manager, the tool many people use to point web addresses at their apps. Once it is connected, you can ask your AI in plain words to create a proxy host, add a certificate, or check what is about to expire. It is handy for anyone who runs a home server or a small website and finds the NPM admin screens fiddly.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Nginx Proxy Manager, so the AI can look things up there or make changes for you when you ask. You stay in charge: the AI asks this helper, and the helper talks to NPM.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like point blog.example.com at the container on port 3000 with HTTPS. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper logs in to your Nginx Proxy Manager with the admin account you gave it, then creates the proxy host and asks for a Let's Encrypt certificate. When it is done, the AI tells you what it made or changed, and you can check it in the NPM admin screen.

What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of hosts or certificates, a summary of what matched your search, or a preview of the exact request that would be sent. When it makes a change, it tells you what it created, updated, or turned on or off. If you used dry run, nothing is changed and you just see the plan.
Before you start
What you need
- An Nginx Proxy Manager instance you can reach, with an admin email and password
- Either Docker (for the sidecar option) or Python with uvx or pipx (for the local option)
- The URL of your NPM admin API, for example http://localhost:81
Good to know
This helper has admin-level control over your proxy hosts and certificates, so anything that can reach it can change or delete them; keep it on your own machine or a trusted network and do not expose it publicly.
