An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to a MySQL database, so it can look things up or make changes there when you ask. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the talking to the database.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your data, like which customers signed up last month. The AI uses this helper to send a request to your MySQL database. The database sends back the rows it found. The helper passes them to your AI, and your AI shows you the answer in plain words. If you ask it to add or change something, the helper sends that change too.

What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a short list or a small table of rows. For changes, it tells you how many rows were added, updated, or removed. If something goes wrong, it explains the problem in plain words. You do not get files, just text in the conversation.

- A MySQL database you can connect to
- The address of that database, plus a username and password
- The name of the database you want to work with
- Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs this helper)
