Sieve MCP server
by gautam-u
Lets your AI check your Mac for secrets leaked into AI chat history, without ever showing the secret itself.

Sieve is a Mac app that scans your AI coding tool history for passwords and keys you may have accidentally pasted into a chat. This MCP server is a small helper that comes inside the Sieve app, so your AI assistant can look at those findings for you. It is handy if you use Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar tools and want a quick safety check.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to the Sieve app on your Mac, so the AI can ask Sieve what it found and report back. Everything stays on your computer, and the AI never sees the actual secret values.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like "did I leak any secrets in my recent chats?". The AI sends that request to this helper, which talks to the Sieve app on your Mac. Sieve looks at its latest scan results and sends back a list of findings, each with the file it came from, a severity level, and a redacted preview like ghp_[REDACTED]. Your AI then explains the list to you in plain words. If you want, it can also check a piece of text for secrets, or swap secrets out for safe placeholders before you send that text somewhere else.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List secrets found in your recent AI tool chats
- Show when each scan ran and how many findings it produced
- Report scanner problems, like files it could not read
- Check whether a block of text contains a secret
- Replace secrets in text with safe sieve:// placeholders
- Run a command with secrets pulled from your Mac Keychain
Try asking your AI
- “Did Sieve find any leaked secrets in my recent Claude Code sessions?”
- “Show me the most recent scan findings and their severity”
- “Are there any scanner issues I should fix, like unreadable files?”
- “Check this text for secrets before I paste it into another tool”
What it gives back to you
You get back a short list of findings, each with a severity, the file it came from, and a redacted preview. You also get scan history, health status, and any scanner issues in plain language. The actual secret values are never shown, only fingerprints and placeholders. Your AI turns all of that into a normal chat reply you can read.
Before you start
What you need
- A Mac running macOS
- The Sieve app installed from the Mac App Store
- MCP server turned on in Sieve Settings
- Claude Code or Claude Desktop configured to use it
Good to know
It reads your local AI chat history and .env files to look for secrets, so only turn it on if you are comfortable with that, and remember it can also run commands on your Mac through the Keychain vault.
Install it with your AI
Add Sieve MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Sieve MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and technical folks on a Mac who use AI coding assistants and want to catch secrets they may have pasted into chats.
