Convex MCP server

by get-convex

Let your AI look inside your Convex database and run one-off queries for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Convex, a database service used by app developers. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI questions about your Convex data and it can go look things up for you. It is most useful if you already have a Convex project and want to explore it without clicking around the dashboard.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Convex, your database. So when you ask about your tables or want a quick query run, the AI can reach into Convex and bring the answer back to you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your Convex project, like what tables exist or what a function does. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to your Convex backend, looks at the tables and functions, and can run a one-off query. Then the AI shows you the result in plain language in the chat, so you do not have to open the Convex dashboard yourself.

What you can do with it

  • List the tables in your Convex database
  • Describe the shape of a table and its fields
  • List the functions defined in your Convex project
  • Explain what a specific function does
  • Run a one-off query against your data
  • Show sample rows from a table

Try asking your AI

  • “What tables do I have in my Convex database?”
  • “Show me the fields in my users table.”
  • “List the functions in my Convex project and what they do.”
  • “Run a quick query to count how many rows are in my messages table.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat: lists of tables or functions, short descriptions of what each one does, and the results of any query you asked for. If you ask for sample rows, you will see them as a small table or list. It is read-oriented, so you mostly get information back rather than changes.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Convex account and a project (the free tier is fine)
  • Your Convex project's deployment URL or access details
  • An AI assistant that supports MCP servers, like the Claude desktop app

Good to know

It can read your Convex data, so only connect it to projects you are comfortable letting your AI look at.

Install it with your AI

Add Convex MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Convex MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
