Codex + Claude Council MCP server

by hamza-aziz-ai

Ask ChatGPT and Claude the same question and let them debate until they agree on one answer.

This is a helper that lets two AI assistants work on your question together. One is ChatGPT (through the Codex app) and the other is Claude. You ask once, they each answer, then they talk to each other until they settle on a single answer. It is handy if you want a second opinion on a coding or planning question without doing the back and forth yourself.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to two other AI tools already on your computer: the Codex app (signed in with your ChatGPT plan) and the Claude Code app (signed in with your Claude plan). When you ask a question, your AI hands it to this helper, the helper runs both of those tools, and brings the shared answer back to you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question, like what a project does or which option to pick. The helper sends that question to both ChatGPT and Claude, and each one answers on its own without seeing the other. Then the helper passes each answer to the other model, and they reply point by point, saying what they accept and where they still disagree. This goes back and forth until both say they agree, or until the round limit is reached. Then one model writes the final answer and the other checks it, and you get that answer in your chat. Both models only read your project, they cannot change anything.

What you can do with it

  • Get two AI opinions on the same question at once
  • Let the two models debate until they agree on one answer
  • Ask about your project and get an agreed summary of what it does
  • Get suggestions for what to improve first, checked by both models
  • See where the two models still disagree when they cannot agree
  • Have both models look at your project files and git history while they answer

Try asking your AI

  • “Ask the council: what does this project do, and what would you improve first?”
  • “Ask the council: should we use PostgreSQL or SQLite for a small internal tool with about 20 users?”
  • “Ask the council: what exactly does this function print, and why?”
  • “Ask the council: is there anything risky in the changes in my last commit?”

What it gives back to you

You get one final answer in your chat, written in plain words. If the two models agreed, it is the answer they both settled on. If they could not agree within the round limit, you get what they do agree on plus each point still in dispute, with both sides. You can also ask for the whole discussion as a page if you use the terminal version.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 20 or newer
  • The Claude Code app, signed in with a Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan
  • The Codex app, signed in with a ChatGPT plan
  • Git, recommended so both models can look at your project history

Good to know

Both models read your project files and git history, so do not point it at folders with secrets you would not want sent to those services.

Install it with your AI

Add Codex + Claude Council MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Codex + Claude Council MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step.
