by HasData

Lets your AI search YouTube, read video and channel details, and pull transcripts for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to YouTube. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find videos, look up channel info, or grab a transcript, and it will go and get the answer for you. It is handy for anyone who researches, writes, or plans content and spends a lot of time on YouTube.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to YouTube, so it can search videos, read channel pages, and fetch transcripts when you ask. You do not need to write any code, you just type your request in plain words.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about YouTube, like finding videos on a topic or reading a channel's info. Your AI passes that request to this helper server. The server talks to YouTube, collects the data, and sends it back. Your AI then turns that into a clear answer for you in the chat. It only reads information, it never posts or changes anything on YouTube.

What you can do with it

  • Search YouTube for videos on any topic
  • Get details about a specific video, like views and publish date
  • Look up a channel's info, subscribers, and recent uploads
  • Pull the transcript of a video in a chosen language
  • Find related videos and chapters for a video
  • Check which languages a video's transcript is available in

Try asking your AI

  • “Find the most viewed videos about gardening from the last month and summarize the top one”
  • “Look up the channel @GoogleDevelopers and tell me what topics they post about most”
  • “Get the transcript of this video and list the main points it makes”
  • “Search YouTube for beginner cooking tutorials under five minutes and show me the titles”

What it gives back to you

You get answers written in the chat, based on real YouTube data. That might be a list of videos with titles and view counts, a summary of a channel, or the text of a transcript. The numbers and details come straight from YouTube, so they are current. Your AI shapes it all into a normal reply you can read.

Before you start

What you need

  • An MCP client that can connect to remote servers, like Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Windsurf
  • A HasData API key, which is a kind of password for apps; you can create one for free on the HasData dashboard

Good to know

It only reads YouTube data, but each request uses credits from your HasData account, so keep an eye on how many calls your AI makes.

Install it with your AI

Add YouTube MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check YouTube MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
