by macrocosm-os · official

Lets your AI pull live X and Reddit posts by keyword, user, or date, and collect bigger datasets over time.

This is an official helper from Macrocosmos that connects your AI assistant to live posts from X (Twitter) and Reddit. You ask in plain words, and your AI fetches matching posts or starts a longer collection job for you. It is handy if you follow trends, track a topic, or need social media posts for research or reports.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to X and Reddit through Macrocosmos. Once it is set up, your AI can ask this helper for real posts and data, then bring the answers back into your chat. You do not run anything yourself; you just ask your AI a question.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like what people are posting about a topic today. Your AI passes that request to this Macrocosmos helper, which talks to the Macrocosmos service and pulls matching posts from X or Reddit. For bigger jobs, the helper can start a collection task that runs for up to seven days and then build a downloadable dataset from it. Your AI then shows you the posts, counts, or download links right in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Fetch recent X posts from specific users or about specific keywords
  • Pull recent Reddit posts from a subreddit or matching keywords
  • Filter results by date range and limit how many posts come back
  • Start a longer collection task for a topic over several days
  • Check how much data a running collection has gathered
  • Build a downloadable dataset from collected posts
  • Cancel a collection task or a dataset build you no longer need

Try asking your AI

  • “What has @elonmusk been posting about today?”
  • “Get me the latest posts from r/bittensor about dTAO”
  • “Fetch 50 tweets about #AI from the last week”
  • “Create a gravity task to collect #Bittensor tweets for the next 7 days”

What it gives back to you

For quick queries, you get a list of matching posts with their text and details, up to 1000 results. For longer collection tasks, you get status updates like how many records have been gathered so far. When a dataset is built, you get download links for the files. Everything shows up as normal text or links in your chat.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Macrocosmos account with an API key (there is a free tier with $5 of credits)
  • The uv tool installed on your computer (a small program that runs Python helpers)
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers

Good to know

Building a dataset stops the collection task and removes it from the network, and using the service spends your Macrocosmos credits, so keep an eye on your balance.
