Homespun MCP server
by homespunapps · official
Your AI can build and host small web apps for you and the people you invite, right from the chat.

Homespun is a service that takes a simple web app your AI wrote and puts it online at a link you can share. This MCP server is the piece that lets your AI talk to Homespun directly, so it can create and manage those apps for you. It is handy if you want a small shared tool for your team without hiring a developer or setting up servers.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Homespun, so when you ask for an app, the AI can actually create it and put it online instead of just describing it. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the work behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to build a small web app, like a sign-up sheet or a shared list. The AI uses this helper to send the app to Homespun. Homespun hosts it at a web address and handles the parts that are usually hard: signing people in with a magic link, storing shared data that updates live, giving different people different permissions, sending email notifications, and accepting file uploads. Then you get a link back in the chat, and you share it with whoever you want to invite.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Create and host a small web app from a single HTML file
- Give people a magic-link sign-in so they do not need passwords
- Store shared data that updates in real time for everyone using the app
- Set different permissions for different roles, like admin or viewer
- Send email notifications when something happens in the app
- Accept file uploads from the people using your app
- Manage and update apps you have already deployed
Try asking your AI
- “Build me a small app where my team can sign up for lunch orders and see what everyone picked”
- “Create a shared checklist app for our project and send me the link”
- “Make an app where people can upload photos and leave comments, and only I can delete them”
- “Update my feedback app so it sends me an email whenever someone submits a new entry”
What it gives back to you
You get a web address for your app, plus short updates in the chat about what was created or changed. If you ask for a list of your apps, you get that list back as text. When the AI makes a change, it tells you what it did so you can check it.
Before you start
What you need
- A Homespun account (you register with the homespun command or through the chat setup)
- An AI chat client that supports MCP, such as Claude or ChatGPT
- Node.js if you want to use the command line client instead of the chat
Good to know
The AI can create and change real apps that other people will see and use, so review what it built before sharing the link widely.
