Bitcoin MCP server

by JamesANZ

Ask your AI about any Bitcoin address, transaction, or block and get live answers.

This is a small helper that lets your AI look up real Bitcoin blockchain information for you. You ask a question in plain English, and it fetches live data from a public Bitcoin explorer called mempool.space. It is handy for anyone curious about Bitcoin who does not want to click around block explorer websites.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to the Bitcoin blockchain, so when you ask about an address or a transaction, the AI can actually go look it up. It is like giving your AI a phone line to a Bitcoin data service.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like how much has this Bitcoin address received. The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper then asks mempool.space, a public Bitcoin data service, for the answer. When the reply comes back, the AI reads it and explains it to you in the chat. You never have to visit a block explorer site yourself.

What you can do with it

  • Check how much a Bitcoin address has received and spent
  • See the recent transaction history for an address
  • List the unspent coins (UTXOs) sitting at an address
  • Look up the full details of a single transaction
  • Get information about a block by its height

Try asking your AI

  • “How much Bitcoin has address 1wiz18xYmhRX6xStj2b9t1rwWX4GKUgpv received and spent?”
  • “Show me the last 5 transactions for this Bitcoin address”
  • “What are the unspent outputs for this address right now?”
  • “Tell me about Bitcoin block 857808”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat: amounts in Bitcoin, counts of transactions, dates, fees, and confirmation status. For a block, you get its hash, timestamp, size, and how many transactions it holds. For a transaction, you see its inputs, outputs, fees, and confirmations. It is all read-only information, nothing is changed.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
  • An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Cursor or Claude Desktop

Good to know

It only reads public Bitcoin data, so it cannot move or spend anything, but the information it shows is live and can change as new blocks arrive.
