SQLite MCP server

by jparkerweb

Let your AI read, search, and update records in a SQLite database file for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a SQLite database file on your computer. SQLite is a simple kind of database that lives in a single file, often used by small apps and tools. If you have one of those files and want to ask questions about it in plain English, this is for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot open files on your computer or look inside a database. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one gives it a connection to a SQLite database file, so when you ask a question, the AI can look things up or make changes there for you.

What this MCP server does

You point this helper at one SQLite database file when you set it up. After that, you just ask your AI things in normal words. The AI turns your request into the right database action, the helper runs it against your file, and the answer comes back into the chat. You can ask it to list tables, show what a table looks like, find records, add new ones, change existing ones, or remove ones you no longer want.

What you can do with it

  • List all the tables in your database
  • Show the columns and structure of any table
  • Find records that match a condition you describe
  • Add a new record to a table
  • Update existing records that match a condition
  • Delete records you no longer need
  • Run a custom SQL query when you need something specific

Try asking your AI

  • “List all the tables in my database”
  • “Show me the structure of the users table”
  • “Find all users older than 30”
  • “Add a new user named Jane with email jane@example.com”
  • “Delete the user with id 5”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, in plain language. Lists of tables, descriptions of columns, and rows of data come back as readable text or small tables. When it adds, updates, or deletes something, it tells you what it changed. If you run a custom query, you see the results of that query.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer (the helper runs through a tool called npx, which comes with Node.js)
  • The full path to your SQLite database file, for example C:\data\mydb.db or /Users/you/mydb.db
  • An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Cursor or VS Code

Good to know

It can change or delete records in your database file, so keep a backup and be clear about what you want changed.

Install it with your AI

Add SQLite MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check SQLite MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.

Who it's for

Anyone who has a SQLite database file and wants to explore or update it by asking questions instead of writing SQL by hand.
