LastSearch MCP server
Your AI can search the web and give you answers with real sources and a confidence score.
LastSearch is a research helper for your AI. You ask a question, and instead of just making something up, your AI goes out to the web, reads pages, and comes back with an answer plus the links it used. It is handy for anyone who needs to check facts, gather sources, or write something they can back up.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to LastSearch, a web research service. Once it is connected, your AI can look things up on the live web and bring back answers with sources when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You type a question in your AI chat, like you normally would. Your AI sends that question to LastSearch through this helper. LastSearch searches the web, opens the pages it finds, pulls out the key claims, and checks each claim against the actual page text. Then it hands your AI a written answer with the sources listed and a confidence score, so you can see how well supported the answer is.
What you can do with it
- Search the live web and get answers with real source links
- See a confidence score for each answer so you know how solid it is
- Check whether the cited links still work or are broken
- Get a list of sources with their trust level and any contradictions flagged
- Ask follow-up questions in the same research session so it remembers what it found
- Choose a quick search or a slower, deeper research pass for hard questions
- Rate an answer as good, bad, or wrong to help it improve
Try asking your AI
- “What is quantum computing? Give me sources.”
- “Compare the main approaches to treating sickle cell disease, with citations.”
- “Find recent news about electric vehicle battery recalls and tell me how confident you are.”
- “Research the pros and cons of remote work and list where each point comes from.”
What it gives back to you
You get a written answer in the chat, followed by a list of sources with their titles and links. Each claim in the answer comes with a confidence score, and the whole answer has an overall confidence number. If any sources disagree with each other, that gets flagged too. You can also see whether each link is still live, stale, or dead.
Before you start
What you need
- A LastSearch API key (a kind of password; you can get a free one at lastsearch.ai/dashboard)
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like the Claude desktop app
- Node.js installed if you run the server yourself (the README shows the npm package)
Good to know
It reads public web pages, so treat the answers and sources as research help rather than guaranteed truth, and remember that sessions and deep mode use your account quota.
Install it with your AI
Add LastSearch MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check LastSearch MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who needs to research facts and show their sources, like analysts, writers, students, and support or marketing teams.
