This is a small helper that lets Claude Desktop drive your own Safari browser on your Mac. You ask Claude in plain words, and it opens pages, reads them, clicks things and types into fields. It is handy if you spend your day in Safari and want Claude to do the boring clicking for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects Claude to your Safari browser, so when you ask it to look something up or fill in a form, it can actually go and do it in your open browser. You install it once, and after that Claude just uses it when needed.

What this MCP server does

You ask Claude something like "open my bank page and read the balance" or "fill in this form with my details". Claude sends that request to a small program on your Mac called the bridge. The bridge passes it to a Safari extension you have enabled, and the extension does the actual work in your current tab: it navigates, reads the text, clicks, or types. The result comes back through the bridge and Claude shows it to you in the chat, or tells you what it changed on the page.

What you can do with it

  • Open a web address in Safari
  • Read the visible text of the page you are on
  • Click buttons and links by name or by position
  • Fill in text boxes and text areas on a form
  • Scroll the page up or down
  • List, open, close and switch between Safari tabs
  • Run a small piece of JavaScript on the page when needed

Try asking your AI

  • “Open example.com and tell me what the page says”
  • “Go to my grocery site and add milk and eggs to the cart”
  • “Fill in the contact form on this page with my name and email”
  • “List all my open Safari tabs and close the ones about news”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat: the text of a page, a list of tabs, or a short note that something was clicked or filled in. If it changed something on the page, like typing into a field, it tells you it did that. It does not send you files or screenshots, just text and confirmations.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer
  • Xcode 16 or newer, to build the Safari extension once
  • Node.js version 18 or newer
  • The Claude Desktop app, with the config file edited to point at the bridge

Good to know

It can click, type and run JavaScript in your browser, so only use it on pages you trust, and be aware that any local program on your Mac could in theory connect to the bridge port.
