This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Browserless, a service that visits web pages for you. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to read a page, search the web, or check how a site performs, and it will go and get the answer. It is handy for anyone who spends time copying things off websites into their notes or reports.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Browserless, a cloud service that opens web pages in a real browser. So when you ask your AI to look something up online, it can actually go and read the page for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "what does this page say" or "find recent news about this topic". Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to Browserless in the cloud, which opens the page in a real browser, waits for it to load, and grabs the content. Then the answer comes back to your AI, and your AI shows it to you in the chat as text, a list, or a summary.

What you can do with it

  • Read a single web page and turn it into clean text or HTML
  • Search the web for pages, news, or images and read the results
  • List all the links on a website so you can see what is there
  • Crawl a whole site and collect the content from many pages
  • Run a performance check on a page and get scores for speed and SEO
  • Take screenshots or export a page as a PDF or image
  • Check your Browserless account usage and recent activity

Try asking your AI

  • “Read this article and give me a summary: https://example.com/article”
  • “Search the web for recent news about electric cars in Europe”
  • “List all the pages on this website so I can see what they cover”
  • “Check the performance score of my homepage and tell me what is slow”

What it gives back to you

You get back answers in plain chat: summaries of pages, lists of links, search results, performance scores, or exported files like a PDF. If your AI took a screenshot, you will see it as an image. For crawls, you get the content of each page it visited, often with a short description.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Browserless account (there is a free tier)
  • An API token from browserless.io (a kind of password the site gives you)
  • An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, or Windsurf

Good to know

Some tools can use your Browserless units or credits, and the agent tool can click and type on real websites, so check what it is doing before letting it run freely.
