AI Tooling Detector MCP server

by mambalabsdev

Check any company's website to see if they really use AI, just talk about it, or sell it.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Does intercom.com really charge for AI?”, the AI Tooling Detector MCP server connects it to AI Tooling Detector, and you get back an AI level and the evidence.

This is a small helper you connect to your AI so it can look at a company's website and tell you how serious they are about AI. You give it a web address, like intercom.com, and it comes back with a simple label plus the clues it found. It is handy if you work in sales, marketing, or research and you want to know which companies are actually doing AI work.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to the Mamba Labs AI Tooling Detector, which lives on a service called Apify. So when you ask about a company, your AI can go check that company's website for you and bring back an answer.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like whether a company really charges for AI. Your AI passes that question to this helper. The helper sends the company's web address to the AI Tooling Detector running on Apify. That service looks at the site, the pricing page, and a few other things, then sorts the company into one of four levels. Your AI shows you the level and the evidence behind it.

What you can do with it

  • Check whether a company charges money for AI
  • See if AI tools are actually running on a company's website
  • Find out if a company only talks about AI in its marketing
  • Check several company domains in one go
  • Look for specific AI vendors on a site
  • See if a site publishes an llms.txt file or blocks AI crawlers

Try asking your AI

  • “Does intercom.com actually charge for AI, or do they just market it?”
  • “Check notion.so, figma.com and berkshirehathaway.com for AI adoption and tell me which ones already pay for AI.”
  • “Which AI vendors are running on zendesk.com?”
  • “Does cursor.com publish an llms.txt, and does their robots.txt block GPTBot?”

What it gives back to you

You get back a short answer in the chat: an AI maturity level for each company, one of commercialized, deployed, declared, or none. Along with that level, you get the evidence that led to it, like a mention on the pricing page or a vendor found on the site. If a site blocks automated visits, you get a blocked note instead of a false no.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 18 or newer on your computer
  • An Apify account with an API token (a kind of password for apps; you get it from your Apify account settings)

Good to know

Each check uses Apify credits, so keep an eye on your usage, and a site that blocks automated visits comes back as blocked rather than a clear answer.
