Crawdar MCP server
by eliottreich · official
Lets your AI research public businesses from a short brief and show the evidence behind each result.

Crawdar is a hosted service that helps your AI look up public information about businesses and build a shortlist of possible leads. You describe what you are looking for in plain words, and it comes back with candidates, the source links behind them, and reasons why some were left out. It is handy for sales, recruiting, and market research work where you would otherwise open dozens of browser tabs.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper that gives your AI one new skill or connection. This one connects your AI to Crawdar, a hosted business research service, so it can search public business information and hand you back results with sources. You do not install a crawler on your computer; the work happens on Crawdar's side.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like find small accounting firms in Leeds that mention cloud services. Your AI sends that request to Crawdar through this connection. Crawdar searches public sources, sorts the candidates into verified fits, likely fits, and excluded ones, and keeps the source links attached. Your AI then shows you the list in the chat, with the reasons some businesses were rejected. For bigger jobs it can start a search, check on its progress, and page through the results.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search businesses from a plain-English brief
- Search by target criteria and geography
- See which candidates were verified, likely, or excluded
- Read the source links behind each result
- Start a longer search job and check on it later
- Refine a search without losing the original
- Cancel a search that is queued or running
Try asking your AI
- “Find independent coffee roasters in Portland with fewer than 20 staff and a public contact page”
- “Search for UK software companies that mention ISO 27001 on their site”
- “Start a lead search for marketing agencies in Berlin and show me the first page when it is ready”
- “Explain how Crawdar decides what counts as a verified fit”
What it gives back to you
You get a list of businesses in the chat, each with a short label such as verified fit, likely fit, or excluded, plus the source links that back it up. For excluded candidates you also see the reason they were left out. Longer searches come back as pages you can step through, with a status you can check. Nothing is sent to anyone; it is research you review yourself.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app or another AI tool that supports MCP servers
- An internet connection, since the research runs on Crawdar's hosted service
- A free Crawdar API key for real searches (the sandbox works without one)
Good to know
Public business information can be incomplete or out of date, so check the source links yourself before you contact anyone or make a decision based on the results.
