OathScore MCP server
by moxiespirit
Lets your AI check live market conditions and how trustworthy a financial data source is.

OathScore is a helper that gives your AI two things: a live snapshot of the market right now, and a quality score for financial data services. It is handy if you follow markets, write reports, or just want to know whether a data source is reliable before you rely on it.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to OathScore, which watches markets and rates data providers. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI a question and it will fetch the answer from OathScore for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like what the market looks like right now. Your AI passes that question to the OathScore helper. The helper talks to OathScore's service, which keeps track of exchange hours, volatility numbers, upcoming economic events, and the quality of various data providers. OathScore sends back a clean answer, and your AI shows it to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Check whether major exchanges like CME or NYSE are open or closed
- See current volatility numbers such as VIX, VVIX, and SKEW
- Find the next big economic event and how many are coming this week
- Look up the OathScore rating for a specific data provider
- Compare two or more data providers side by side
- See active alerts when a monitored data source is having problems
- Check the health and freshness of the OathScore service itself
Try asking your AI
- “What is the current market state right now?”
- “Are US markets open, and when do they close next?”
- “What is the VIX level and what does the volatility term structure look like?”
- “How reliable is Alpha Vantage compared to Polygon.io?”
What it gives back to you
You get back short, readable answers in the chat. Things like a list of exchanges with open or closed status, a set of volatility numbers, a countdown to the next FOMC or CPI event, or a score from 0 to 100 with a letter grade for a data provider. Comparisons come back as a small side-by-side summary. Nothing is changed on your side; it is all read-only information.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- The httpx and mcp packages installed (the README shows the pip command)
- A copy of the OathScore repository cloned to your computer
- An MCP-compatible AI app such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code
Good to know
The scores for the rated data providers are still being collected and will only be filled in after 30 days of monitoring, so early on they may show as empty.

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check OathScore MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
