WP-CLI MCP server
by mvtandas
Lets your AI manage a WordPress site: install plugins, create pages, edit themes, and run database tasks for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to a WordPress website. Once it is set up, you can just ask in plain words and the AI will carry out the task on your site, whether it runs on your own computer or on a remote server you reach over SSH. It is handy for anyone who looks after a WordPress site but does not want to click through the dashboard for every little thing.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives it a new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to WordPress through a tool called WP-CLI, which is the command line way of managing WordPress. So when you ask your AI to install a plugin or create a page, it passes the job to this helper, and the helper does it on your site.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in normal language, like install WooCommerce or list my plugins. Your AI reads that and picks the right action from this helper. The helper then runs the matching WP-CLI command on your WordPress site, either on your own machine or over SSH on a remote server. When it is done, it sends the result back and your AI tells you what happened. You never have to open a terminal or remember any commands yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Install, activate, deactivate, and delete plugins and themes
- Create, update, and delete posts and pages with your content
- Read and write theme files directly
- Create users, menus, and menu items
- Export your database and run search and replace across it
- Scaffold a new child theme, plugin, or Gutenberg block
- Flush the cache and rewrite rules after changes
Try asking your AI
- “Install WooCommerce and activate it”
- “Create a new page called About Us with this content: we are a small bakery in Lisbon”
- “List all my plugins and tell me which ones are inactive”
- “Export the database before I make changes”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a short list or a summary. For example, listing plugins gives you a table of names and statuses, and creating a page gives you a confirmation with the new page ID. Database exports produce a file on your server. Anything that changes your site is reported back so you know exactly what was done.
Before you start
What you need
- WP-CLI installed and available on your computer
- A WordPress site, either on your machine or reachable over SSH
- Node.js 18 or newer
- The path to your WordPress folder, or an SSH connection string for a remote site
Good to know
This helper can change or delete things on your live site, including plugins, posts, users, and database content, so always ask for a backup first and review what the AI plans to do.
Install it with your AI
Add WP-CLI MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check WP-CLI MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
WordPress site owners, freelancers, and developers who want to manage their site by talking to an AI instead of clicking through the dashboard.
