Synapse MCP server
by myelixlabs
Lets your AI map your codebase so it can find functions, trace callers, and check changes before you push.

Synapse MCP is a helper that reads your code and builds a map of it, so your AI assistant can answer questions about your project without opening file after file. It runs on your own computer, and your code never gets sent anywhere. It is handy for developers and anyone who works with a codebase and uses an AI assistant to help.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to your codebase, so it can look up functions, follow who calls what, and check edits before they happen. You just ask in plain words, and the helper does the digging.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your code, like where a function is used or what a change might break. The AI passes that request to Synapse, which has already read your whole project and built a map of it. Synapse looks things up in that map and sends back the exact pieces you need, such as the function, its callers, and related tests. It can also simulate an edit in memory, check it against your compiler and linter, and only save it if everything passes. If something fails, it rolls back so your files are never left broken.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Find a function and see every place it is called from
- Search your codebase by meaning, by symbol name, or by pattern
- Check what a change or commit might break before you push
- Turn a stack trace into a likely root cause and a test to reproduce it
- See which parts of your code have no tests and where to add them
- Spot dead code that is safe to delete and review your public API
- Register several projects and keep their maps separate
Try asking your AI
- “Where is the function that validates Stripe webhooks called from?”
- “What would break if I change the signature of sendEmail?”
- “Here is a stack trace, can you find the root cause in my code?”
- “Which files in this project have no tests covering them?”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers in the chat, plus lists of files, functions, and line numbers. For a change review, you get a ranked list of what is affected and which tests to run. For a stack trace, you get a likely cause and a suggested test. If Synapse made an edit, it tells you it saved the file or rolled it back.
Before you start
What you need
- A computer running macOS, Linux, or Windows
- A code project on that computer that you want your AI to understand
- An AI assistant that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop or Cursor
- A free Synapse account for the basic features (some features like safe writes need the paid plan)
Good to know
It can change files in your project, so review any edit it proposes before you accept it, and keep your work in version control.
Install it with your AI
Add Synapse MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Synapse MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers, engineers, and technical teams who use an AI assistant and want it to understand their codebase without sending code to the cloud.
