AWS S3 MCP server
by ofershap
Let your AI list, read, upload, and delete files in your Amazon S3 cloud storage for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Amazon S3, which is Amazon's online file storage service. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to look at your files, read one, upload something new, or make a temporary sharing link. It is handy for anyone who keeps files in S3 but does not want to remember command line instructions.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to your Amazon S3 storage, so it can look things up or make changes there when you ask. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the talking to S3 behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like list my buckets or read that config file. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper then talks to Amazon S3 using your existing AWS login details. S3 sends back the answer, and the helper hands it to your AI, which shows it to you in the chat. If you asked for a change, like uploading or deleting a file, the helper makes that change in S3 for you.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all the S3 buckets in your account
- Browse the files inside a bucket, including inside a folder
- Download and read a text file stored in S3
- Upload text content to a file in a bucket
- Delete a file from a bucket
- Create a temporary sharing link for a file
- Check whether a bucket exists and see basic details about it
Try asking your AI
- “List all my S3 buckets”
- “Show me the files in my-bucket/uploads/”
- “Download the config.json from my-bucket”
- “Upload this content to my-bucket/notes.txt”
- “Generate a presigned URL for this file that expires in 1 hour”
What it gives back to you
You get answers right in the chat. Lists of buckets or files come back as simple lists you can read. When you read a file, the text content appears in the conversation. When you upload, delete, or create a link, the AI tells you what it did, and for a link it gives you the temporary web address.
Before you start
What you need
- An Amazon Web Services account with S3 storage
- AWS access keys (a kind of username and password for apps; AWS gives you these in your account settings)
- Node.js installed on your computer if you run it with npx
- The Claude desktop app, Cursor, or VS Code if you want to use it there
Good to know
This helper can upload and delete files in your storage, and deleting is permanent, so check before you say yes to a delete or an upload.
Install it with your AI
