OpenStack MCP server
by openstack-kr
Lets your AI look at and manage your OpenStack cloud servers, images, networks and storage for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to OpenStack, the system many companies use to run their own private cloud. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words about your cloud, and it will go and fetch the answer or make the change. It is handy for anyone who works with an OpenStack cloud but does not want to click around a web dashboard all day.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another system. This one connects your AI to your OpenStack cloud, so when you ask a question about your servers or networks, the AI can actually go and look it up. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the running around.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in your AI chat, like asking what servers are running. The AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to your OpenStack cloud using the official OpenStack tools. It brings the result back and the AI explains it to you in normal words. If you ask it to change something, like starting or stopping a server, it can do that too.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your cloud servers and see their details
- Check the sizes and types of machines available (flavors)
- Look at the images you can use to start new servers
- See your networking setup, like networks and ports
- Check your block storage volumes
- Look up your OpenStack login and project details
- Start, stop or change cloud resources when you ask
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a list or a short summary. For example, it might show a table of server names with their status and size. If you asked it to change something, it tells you what it did. Everything comes back in plain language, not raw technical output.
Before you start
What you need
- Python 3.10 or newer
- An OpenStack account with credentials saved in a clouds.yaml file
- The Claude desktop app (or another AI app that supports MCP servers)
Good to know
This helper can change or delete things in your cloud, so be careful with requests that start, stop or remove resources, and double check before you say yes.
Install it with your AI
Add OpenStack MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check OpenStack MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who work with an OpenStack private cloud, like system administrators, cloud engineers and support staff who want quick answers without the dashboard.
