Patent PreCheck MCP server
Score your code for patent readiness and get prior-art signals, straight from your AI chat.

Patent PreCheck is a helper that looks at code or a written idea and gives you a rough patentability check. It scores things like eligibility, novelty and non-obviousness, and tells you what might be holding you back before you talk to a lawyer. It is handy if you write software and wonder whether an idea is worth filing.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to the Patent PreCheck scoring engine, which runs on their servers. So when you ask about your code, the AI can send it off, get scores and prior-art signals back, and explain them to you in the chat.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like whether a piece of code looks patentable. The AI passes your code or description to this helper. The helper sends it to the Patent PreCheck engine, which scores it across the four USPTO pillars and checks a prior-art corpus. You get back a band from Not Ready to File Ready, the pillar holding you back, and suggestions to strengthen the idea.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Score a code file or an invention description for patent readiness
- See which USPTO pillar is dragging your score down
- Check prior-art signals for your idea
- Look up common rejection patterns for similar inventions
- Get plain-language legal context for the scores
- Suggest CPC classification codes for your idea
- Compare your code to an existing patent
What it gives back to you
You get a short report in the chat: a band like Not Ready or File Ready, scores for each pillar, the pillar holding the band back, top opportunities to strengthen, and how much prior art was consulted. You can also ask for a raw JSON version if you want the numbers only. Nothing is filed and nothing is changed on your machine.
Before you start
What you need
- An AI coding agent or chat app that supports MCP (like Cursor or Claude Code)
- Node.js 18 or newer if you run the local version with npx
- Nothing else: no API keys or accounts are needed
Good to know
This is informational only and not legal advice, so treat the scores as a rough signal and talk to a licensed patent attorney before filing.
