China Law MCP server
by thu-lawyer
Let your AI look up real Chinese law articles and check that the citations it gives you actually exist.
This is a small helper program that puts a copy of Chinese laws on your own computer and lets your AI search through them. It also double checks any law article your AI mentions, so it can catch made up references. It is meant for anyone who asks an AI about Chinese law and wants to be sure the article numbers are real.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat from what it remembers, and it sometimes invents law article numbers. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI one extra skill. This one gives your AI a local library of Chinese laws and a checker. When you ask something, the AI can look things up in that library instead of guessing.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about Chinese law, in plain words if you like. The AI sends your question to this helper, which searches a library of laws stored on your own computer. The helper sends back the matching articles, with the law name, article number and the full text. If your AI writes an answer with citations like Civil Code article 1254, the helper can check each one and tell you which are real and which were made up.
What you can do with it
- Search Chinese laws using everyday language, like a friend borrowing money and not paying it back
- Look up the exact text of a law article when you know the law and the article number
- Browse the list of laws in the library by keyword or by department
- Check a single citation to see if that law article really exists
- Paste a whole paragraph and get every law citation checked at once
- Catch and list citations your AI invented, so you can remove them
Try asking your AI
- “同事借我钱不还怎么办”
- “外卖吃出异物能退吗”
- “Check whether Civil Code article 1254 is real”
- “Look at this paragraph and tell me which law citations are fake: 根据《民法典》第1254条,另依据《民法典》第88888条。”
What it gives back to you
You get back the actual text of law articles, with the law name, chapter and article number, so you can read the source yourself. For citation checks, you get a short verdict: how many citations were found, how many are valid, and a list of the invalid ones. When you search in plain language, you get the closest matching articles ranked by relevance, not a legal opinion. Everything shows up as normal text in your chat.
Before you start
What you need
- A tool called uv (the command uvx comes with it), or Python and pip
- An MCP capable client like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code
- About 15 MB of disk space for the law database
Good to know
It only covers the constitution, national laws and legislative interpretations, not local rules or court interpretations, and it gives you law text and citation checks, not legal advice.
Install it with your AI
Add China Law MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check China Law MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Handy for lawyers, paralegals, law students, and anyone in China who asks an AI legal questions and wants to trust the article numbers.
