Australian Law MCP server
by ChangkeunJ
Ask your AI what Australian Commonwealth law said on any date, and check statute citations against the official register.

This is a helper that connects your AI to the Federal Register of Legislation, the official source of Australian Commonwealth law. It lets your AI look up acts and check citations for you, using the real register instead of guessing. It is handy for anyone who has to deal with Australian federal law and wants answers they can trust.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to the Federal Register of Legislation, so it can look up acts and check citations for you when you ask. You do not need to be technical to use it once it is set up.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about Australian Commonwealth law. The AI uses this helper to talk to the Federal Register of Legislation. The helper fetches the act or the citation check you need from the official register. Then the AI shows you the answer in the chat, with the details it found. It can also compare what the law said on two different dates.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Find an act or legislative instrument by name
- Read the current text of an act or a single section
- Read what the law said on any date since 1901
- Check whether a statute citation is real and in force
- See if an act is in force or repealed and what amended it
- Compare two versions of an act to see what changed
- Search the full text of every title on the register
Try asking your AI
- “What did section 3A of the Income Tax Rates Act 1986 say on 5 January 2017?”
- “Check these citations: s 3A and s 999 of the Income Tax Rates Act 1986.”
- “Is the Income Tax Rates Act 1986 still in force, and what has amended it?”
- “What changed in the Income Tax Rates Act 1986 between 2016 and 2018?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like the text of a section as it stood on a date, or a list of acts that match a name. Citation checks come back marked OK, NOT FOUND, or UNVERIFIED, with a short explanation. Comparisons show which sections were added, removed, or reworded. Everything comes from the official register and includes the required attribution.
