LibreJustice MCP server

Search French and European case law and legal texts, and read any article as it stood on a given date.

LibreJustice is a free search engine for French and European law. It holds millions of court decisions and legal articles in one place, linked to each other. This page is about the official helper that lets your AI assistant search it for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot look things up in a legal database. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to LibreJustice, so when you ask a legal question, the AI can actually search the decisions and the legal texts and come back with real answers.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question in plain words, for example about a court ruling or an article of a code. The AI passes your question to this helper. The helper searches the LibreJustice database, which mixes keyword search and meaning-based search, and finds matching decisions or legal texts. It sends the results back to the AI, which reads them and explains them to you in the chat. You can then ask follow-up questions, like which articles a decision cites or what a text said on a specific date.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search court decisions from French and European courts
- Read the full text of a specific decision
- Search legal codes and statutes
- Read a legal article as it stood on a chosen date
- Filter decisions by court, date or outcome
- Find which articles a decision cites
Try asking your AI
- “Find recent Conseil d'Etat decisions about trouble anormal de voisinage”
- “What did article 1240 of the Code civil say on 1 January 2020”
- “Show me Cour de cassation rulings from 2023 about unfair dismissal”
- “Which articles does this decision rely on”
What it gives back to you
You get back a list of matching decisions or legal texts, each with a title, a date, the court or code, and a short summary. You can open one to read the full text or the exact wording of an article. The AI then explains the results in the chat, in your own words, and can quote the passages it used.
Before you start
What you need
- An AI assistant that supports MCP connections, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Le Chat or Perplexity
- An internet connection
- Nothing else: the public server uses a login step in your browser, so there is no key to copy
Good to know
The results come from public sources and are refreshed daily, but they are not legal advice, so always check the original text before relying on it.
Install it with your AI
Add LibreJustice MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check LibreJustice MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Lawyers, paralegals, law students, journalists and anyone who needs to check French or European law without paying for a legal database.
