Preflight MCP server

Preflight is a helper for people who use Claude Code to write software. It watches the prompts you type, spots the vague ones, and asks you a quick question before your AI runs off in the wrong direction. If you have ever typed "fix the bug" and watched your AI edit the wrong file, this is for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to your own coding sessions and project files, so it can look at what you asked before, what changed, and what might be unclear. When you type a prompt, the helper steps in and checks it first.

What this MCP server does

You type a prompt in Claude Code, like "fix the auth bug". Preflight reads it and decides how clear it is. If it looks vague, it looks at your git history, your open files, and your past corrections, then asks you a question to narrow things down. Once you answer, your AI gets a much clearer picture and does the work right the first time. It can also search your past sessions and show you a report card of how your prompts are doing.

What you can do with it

  • Catch vague prompts before your AI starts working
  • Ask you which file or issue you actually mean
  • Search your past coding sessions by meaning, not just keywords
  • Grade your prompts from A to F on how clear they are
  • Estimate how many tokens and dollars you are spending
  • Save a checkpoint before your session gets too long
  • Find API contracts and types across related projects

Try asking your AI

  • “fix the auth bug”
  • “commit this”
  • “refactor auth to OAuth2 and update all consumers”
  • “How did I set up auth middleware last month?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers right in the chat. Sometimes it is a short question asking which file or issue you meant. Sometimes it is a list of past sessions that match what you asked about. It can also show you a scorecard with grades, a cost estimate in dollars, or a summary of what changed since your last checkpoint.

Before you start

What you need

  • Claude Code installed and working
  • Node.js 18 or newer
  • Your project folder path (so it knows where to look)

Good to know

It reads your local coding session history and project files to work, so be aware it looks at your private work data. Nothing leaves your machine unless you turn on the OpenAI option.

Install it with your AI

Add Preflight MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Preflight MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
