Redis MCP server
by redis
Lets your AI store, look up, and search data in your Redis database just by asking in plain words.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Redis, a fast storage service many teams use to keep data close at hand. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to save things, fetch them back, or search through them, and it will do the work in your Redis database for you. It is handy for anyone who uses Redis at work but does not want to memorize commands.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to Redis, so when you ask a question, the AI can actually look things up or make changes in your Redis database. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the talking to Redis behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like save this or find that. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper connects to your Redis database and carries out the action, whether that is storing a value, reading a list, or searching an index. Then it sends the result back to the AI, and the AI shows it to you in the chat in normal words. You never have to type Redis commands yourself.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save and read simple values like settings, session data, or cached answers
- Store and update objects with several fields, such as user profiles or product info
- Add items to lists and pull them off, useful for queues or recent activity
- Track unique values like user IDs or tags in sets
- Keep score-based lists, for example leaderboards or priority queues
- Save and read JSON documents with nested data
- Search Redis documentation and best practices by asking a question
Try asking your AI
- “Store this conversation in a stream called chat-log”
- “Cache this item for one hour”
- “Save this session with an expiration time of 30 minutes”
- “Find all users tagged with the label beta-tester”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, in plain language. That might be a value you asked for, a list of matching items, a short summary of what is stored, or a confirmation that something was saved or changed. If you asked a question about Redis itself, you get a short explanation pulled from the documentation.
Before you start
What you need
- A Redis database you can connect to, either on your own computer or hosted
- Its address, and a username and password if your Redis setup requires them
- The uv tool installed, which the setup uses to run the helper
Good to know
This helper can change or delete data in your Redis database, so be careful with requests that remove or overwrite things, and consider using a read-only Redis user if you only need to look things up.
Install it with your AI
Add Redis MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Redis MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with Redis at their job and wants to save, look up, or search data without learning Redis commands.
