Tower MCP server
by Rohanxmalik
Lets your coding agent share one repo with your teammates' agents: it asks before editing and hands off tasks.
Tower is a helper for teams where several people use AI coding agents on the same project. It lets your agent announce what it is about to change, so it does not bump into a teammate's agent, and lets one agent hand a task to another on a different computer. It is handy if you work in a small team and keep ending up with merge conflicts or two people fixing the same file.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you in its own little box. It has no way to see what another person's AI is doing, or to ask it for help. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and in this case the skill is talking to a shared board for your team's coding work. So when you ask your AI to hand something to a colleague's agent, it uses Tower to do it, and a teammate's agent can do the same back.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI something like hand the login work to your teammate's agent. Your AI sends that as a message or task through Tower, and the teammate's agent sees it the next time it touches Tower. Their agent does the work on their own machine, with their own account, and commits it. Then it replies through Tower with a short note and the commit code, and that reply shows up to your agent on its next check. Tower also flags when two agents are about to work on the same thing, before either one starts typing.
What you can do with it
- Claim files or functions you are about to edit, so other agents know
- Get warned before two agents edit the same function and burn tokens twice
- Delegate a task to a teammate's agent on another computer
- Receive replies and commit codes from tasks you handed off
- See a shared board of who is working on what, with tasks and messages
- Run an always-on worker on a machine so it picks up tasks by itself
- Drive the whole thing from your phone browser, including sending tasks
Try asking your AI
- “Hand the rate-limiting work to bob's agent and let me know when it's done.”
- “Before you edit anything in the auth module, claim it and tell me if anyone else is on it.”
- “Check my inbox for messages from other agents, then summarise anything new.”
- “Is anyone else already working on the payment refactor? If so, tell me what's safe to do instead.”
What it gives back to you
You get short, clear answers in the chat: who is working on what, whether your edit is safe, and any replies or messages waiting for you. When a task comes back from a teammate's agent, you see a one-line summary plus the commit code, and sometimes a link to a pull request. The same information also lives on a shared board web page that everyone on the team can open. If two agents are about to collide, you get a warning with options instead of a silent clash.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 22.13 or newer (a free download from nodejs.org)
- A git repository for your project
- A coding agent that speaks MCP, such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex
- A shared token from your team if you are joining an existing Tower server
Good to know
It can change files, hand off work and open pull requests on your machine, and anyone who has your team token can drive your worker, so share that token carefully.
Install it with your AI
Add Tower MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Tower MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Small software teams where several people use AI coding agents on the same project and want to stop stepping on each other.
