Research Toolkit MCP server
by rrrrrredy
Give your AI a research workflow: plan a study, save progress, review sources and check the final report.
Research Toolkit is a set of helper tools that guide your AI through a research project, from the first question to the finished report. It is handy if you write industry research, compare products, look into a company or dig into a technical topic. Instead of a one-off chat answer, you get a structured study with sources you can trace.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something useful. This one connects your AI to the Research Toolkit, so it can set up a research task, keep track of progress and run the checks the toolkit describes. You just ask in normal words, and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you want to research, and it uses this helper to set up the task and pick a workflow. The helper then walks the AI through the stages: reading your sources, recording claims, writing the report and reviewing it. Along the way it can save your progress so you can pick up later. When the report is done, it runs delivery checks to make sure the sources line up with the conclusions. You get the finished report back in your chat, with a note on what was checked.
What you can do with it
- Start a new research task and choose a light or full workflow
- Save your progress so you can continue the same study later
- Get stage-by-stage guidance while the AI writes the report
- Review a draft report against its sources
- Update conclusions when new material arrives
- Run delivery checks before you share the report
- Keep records of sources and claims for traceability
What it gives back to you
You get the report itself in your chat, written out in full with citations. You also get a short note about what was checked and any changes made during review. If you asked to save progress, the toolkit keeps a record so you can continue the same study later. The answers come back as normal text you can read and copy.
Before you start
What you need
- An AI client that can run a local helper program (for example the Claude desktop app)
- Python 3.10 or newer installed on your computer
- The Research Toolkit files, which the setup guide explains how to get
Good to know
It reads the files and sources you point it at, so avoid feeding it anything private you would not want your AI to see.
Install it with your AI
