tradefloor MCP server
by simoncoombes
Let your AI run pretend stock markets, test trading ideas, and see why prices moved.
tradefloor is a pretend stock market that runs on your own computer. You give it a starting point and a list of companies, and it plays out days of prices, buyers and sellers. It is handy if you want to test a trading idea without risking real money.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This helper connects your AI to tradefloor, the pretend market. So when you ask your AI to test a trading rule or run a market shock, it can actually do it and show you what happened.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to run a market test. The AI uses this helper to start up a pretend market with a seed number and a set of companies. The market plays forward day by day, and your trading rule places orders that push prices around. When it finishes, you get numbers back: what the rule made, what it cost, and why prices moved.
What you can do with it
- Run a trading rule against a pretend market and see what it made
- Compare several rules over many different markets
- Fork a running market and change one thing, like a rate rise
- See why each price moved, broken into twelve factors
- Place orders one day at a time in a live market session
- Rewind a market and try a different action
- Load a packaged shock, like a liquidity crisis, and watch what happens
Try asking your AI
- “Start a market at seed 7 with 40 random companies and run 10 days.”
- “Test a momentum rule that buys the top 5 stocks after 1 day and tell me its return and Sharpe.”
- “Fork this market and raise rates by 2 percent in one branch, then show me where the two branches differ.”
- “Explain why the price of the first company moved on day 5.”
What it gives back to you
You get back numbers and short summaries in the chat. That could be the return, the Sharpe ratio, the cost of your own trading, or a list of factors behind a price move. It can also answer with a step-by-step readout of what changed between two branches of a market.
