CodeMCP (CKB) code knowledge server
by SimplyLiz
Lets your AI answer questions about your codebase: what calls what, what breaks if you change it, who owns it.

CodeMCP is a helper that turns your code project into something your AI can actually look things up in. Instead of your AI guessing or searching for text, it can ask this helper real questions about how your code fits together. It is most handy for developers and anyone who has to change code they did not write themselves.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to your code project, so it can look up functions, trace who calls them, and check what a change might break. You ask in plain words, and the helper does the digging.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your code, like what calls a certain function or what might break if you change a file. The AI passes that question to this helper, which reads an index of your project. The index is like a map that knows where every function lives and how everything connects. The helper sends back a clear answer, and the AI explains it to you in the chat. You get facts about your code instead of guesses.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Find out what calls a function or how a piece of code is reached
- See what might break if you change something, with a risk score
- Find out which tests to run for a change instead of running everything
- Check who owns a file or folder and who should review a change
- Spot code that is no longer used anywhere
- Scan for exposed secrets and passwords in your code
- Get a plain overview of how your project is put together
Try asking your AI
- “What calls the HandleRequest function?”
- “What is the blast radius if I change UserService?”
- “Who owns the internal/api module?”
- “Is this legacy code still used anywhere?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of functions, short explanations, risk scores, and suggestions for who should review a change. Some answers come as summaries of what is connected to what, and some flag files or lines worth a closer look. It can also point out secrets it found or code it believes is unused. Everything shows up as text you can read and act on.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 18 or newer if you install it with npm
- A code project on your computer that you want to ask about
- Optional: language indexer tools for the best answers (Go, TypeScript, Python, Rust, Java and others)
Good to know
It reads your project files and can also scan for secrets, so be careful about running it on code you are not allowed to share with your AI assistant.
Install it with your AI
Add CodeMCP (CKB) code knowledge server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check CodeMCP (CKB) code knowledge server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and engineers who work in an existing codebase and want fast, reliable answers before they change something.
