Site-Shot MCP server

by site-shot

Let your AI take website screenshots, including full pages, with ads and cookie banners removed.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Take a full-page screenshot of news.ycombinator.com”, the Site-Shot MCP server connects it to Site-Shot, and you get back screenshot in your chat.

This is a small helper that lets your AI take pictures of web pages for you. You ask for a screenshot of a link, and the picture shows up right in the chat. It is handy if you check websites, collect examples, or want to see how a page looks in another country.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot open a web page and look at it. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and this one gives it the skill of taking website screenshots through the Site-Shot service. Once it is connected, your AI can ask Site-Shot to capture a page and then show you the image.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI to take a screenshot of a web address. The AI passes that request to this helper, which sends it to the Site-Shot service. Site-Shot opens the page in a real browser, waits for it to load, and takes the picture. It can also remove ads and cookie popups so the image is cleaner. The picture comes back to your AI and appears in your chat.

What you can do with it

  • Take a screenshot of any public web page
  • Capture a whole long page, not just the top part
  • Remove ads and cookie banners from the image
  • Take the screenshot as if you were in another country
  • Choose the image format, like PNG or JPEG
  • Set the width and height of the picture
  • Wait a moment before capturing, for pages that load slowly

Try asking your AI

  • “Take a full-page screenshot of https://news.ycombinator.com”
  • “Show me what https://www.example.com looks like in Germany”
  • “Screenshot this page without the cookie popup”
  • “Take a screenshot of this page as a JPEG that is 1200 pixels wide”

What it gives back to you

You get the screenshot as an image right in the chat, so you can look at it or save it. If something is wrong, like a missing key or a country that has no proxy, you get a clear error message instead of a picture. There is no saved library or list of past screenshots; each capture is handed back to you once.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Site-Shot API key (a kind of password; you get it from your Site-Shot dashboard)
  • A paid Site-Shot API plan, because captures use up that plan's allowance
  • Node.js 18 or newer on your computer
  • An MCP client like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex

Good to know

Each capture uses up your Site-Shot plan's allowance, so repeated screenshots can cost money.
