Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find me a quick vegetarian curry”, the BBC Good Food MCP server connects it to BBC Good Food, and you get back A list of recipes.

This is a small helper that connects your AI chat to BBC Good Food, the British cooking website. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find recipes, read one in full, and change the amounts to feed the number of people you have. It is handy if you cook often and want ideas without clicking around the site yourself.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to BBC Good Food, so it can look up recipes and details on that site for you. You just ask in normal words, and the helper does the looking up behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like find me a quick vegetarian curry. Your AI passes that to this helper, which talks to the BBC Good Food website. The helper reads the search results and hands them back to your AI. Your AI then shows you a list of recipes, or reads one out with its ingredients and steps. If you want, it can also change the amounts so the recipe fits the number of people at your table.

What you can do with it

  • Search BBC Good Food recipes by dish, ingredient, or cooking technique
  • Filter recipes by diet, cuisine, meal type, difficulty, time, calories, servings, or rating
  • Read one full recipe with ingredients, steps, times, nutrition, and rating
  • Rescale a recipe's ingredients to any number of servings
  • Switch ingredient quantities between metric and US units
  • See which filter values the site actually accepts before you search
  • Rescale any ingredient list you paste in, without searching the site

Try asking your AI

  • “Find me a vegetarian curry that takes under 40 minutes.”
  • “What diets can I filter on?”
  • “Read me that recipe for six, in US cups.”
  • “Which of these are rated four stars or better?”
  • “Scale this ingredient list from a magazine by 1.5.”

What it gives back to you

You get back lists of recipes with their titles, links, images, and star ratings. When you open one, you see the full ingredients, the steps, the prep and cook times, the difficulty, the diets it suits, and the nutrition per serving. If you asked to rescale, the ingredient amounts come back already adjusted, and the AI will tell you they were recalculated. Some recipes sit behind a subscription, and those come back marked as premium with no ingredients or steps, so you would need to visit the page.
