Marmiton MCP server

by smeet666

Search French Marmiton recipes, read ingredients and steps, and rescale quantities to any number of servings.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find me a recipe for tarte aux pommes”, the Marmiton MCP server connects it to Marmiton, and you get back recipes in your chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI chat to Marmiton, the big French recipe site. You can ask for a recipe, read it in full, and have the amounts changed for the number of people you are cooking for. It is handy if you cook and like trying French dishes, and you would rather ask in plain words than click around a website.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Marmiton, so it can look up recipes and read them for you. You just ask, and the helper does the looking up behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like find me a recipe for apple tart, or what can I make with courgettes and goat cheese. The AI passes your request to this helper, which searches Marmiton in French and brings back a list of matching recipes with their names and links. You then pick one, and the AI reads it in full: ingredients, steps, prep and cooking times, servings, rating. If you say you are cooking for six instead of four, the helper recalculates every quantity and tells you which numbers were exact and which were rounded to stay easy to use in a kitchen.

What you can do with it

  • Search Marmiton recipes by dish or by ingredient
  • Read one recipe in full with its ingredients and steps
  • Rescale a recipe to the number of servings you need
  • See prep time, cooking time, total time and rating
  • Rescale an ingredient list you copied from a book or a notebook
  • Check what a recipe was originally written for and what it was changed to

Try asking your AI

  • “Find me a recipe for tarte aux pommes.”
  • “Read me that recipe for six people instead of four.”
  • “What can I make with courgettes and chevre?”
  • “Here is a recipe I copied from a book, scale it by 1.5 for me.”

What it gives back to you

You get back a list of recipes with their names and links, or one full recipe with its ingredients, steps, times, servings and rating. When you ask for a different number of servings, each ingredient line comes with its new amount and a small note saying whether the number was exact or rounded. Everything appears right in the chat, as text you can read or copy.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 24 or newer if you install it with npx
  • The Claude desktop app, Claude Code, Cursor, or another chat client that supports MCP servers

Good to know

It only reads from Marmiton and never posts anything, but the rescaled amounts are the server's own arithmetic and may be rounded, so double-check them before you cook.
