Supertoinette MCP server

by smeet666

Search French recipes, read them with ingredients rescaled to your table, and get wine pairings.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find me a recipe for blanquette de veau”, the Supertoinette MCP server connects it to Supertoinette, and you get back recipes, amounts and wine ideas.

This is a small helper that connects your AI chat to Supertoinette, a long-running French cooking site. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find recipes, read them out, adjust the amounts for the number of people you are cooking for, and suggest what to drink with the dish. It is handy if you cook from French recipes and want the maths done for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Supertoinette, so it can look up recipes and wine pairings on that site for you. You just ask in plain words, and the helper does the fetching.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like find a recipe for blanquette de veau. The AI passes your request to this helper, which searches Supertoinette and brings back a list of matching recipes. You pick one, and the helper reads the full recipe: ingredients, steps, times, difficulty, cost, and how many people it serves. If you say you are cooking for eight, it rescales the ingredient amounts for you. It can also look up what wine the site suggests with a dish, and it can rescale any ingredient list you paste in, even from your grandmother's notebook.

What you can do with it

  • Search French recipes by dish or ingredient
  • Read a full recipe with ingredients, steps, and timings
  • Rescale ingredient amounts to any number of servings
  • Browse recipes by category, page by page
  • Look up wine pairings for a dish
  • Rescale any ingredient list you paste in, even from a notebook

Try asking your AI

  • “Find me a recipe for blanquette de veau.”
  • “Read me that recipe for ten people.”
  • “What categories does the site file its recipes under?”
  • “What wine goes with a beef bourguignon?”
  • “Scale this ingredient list from my grandmother's notebook by three.”

What it gives back to you

You get back clear answers in the chat: lists of recipes with their titles and links, full recipes with ingredients and steps, rescaled ingredient lines with notes on any rounding, and wine suggestions. If you ask for a recipe for a certain number of people, the amounts are recalculated and shown with a note saying they were recomputed. Everything comes with the address of the page it was read from.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Claude desktop app or another chat client that supports MCP servers
  • Node.js 24 or newer (if you install with npx)
  • Docker (only if you prefer the Docker install)

Good to know

The rescaled amounts are this server's own arithmetic, not the site's, so double-check them if exact proportions matter.
