RepoGuard MCP server
Lets your AI check code for architecture mistakes, leaked secrets, and rule breaks before you commit.
RepoGuard is a helper that watches over the code your AI writes. It checks for common problems like messy structure, hardcoded passwords, and ignored errors. It is handy for developers and anyone using AI coding assistants like Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. Here, it connects your AI to RepoGuard, so the AI can run checks on your code and tell you what needs fixing. You just ask in plain words, and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to check your code or your latest changes. The AI uses RepoGuard to scan your files against a set of 16 architectural rules. RepoGuard looks for things like database queries in the wrong place, hardcoded secrets, or unsafe error handling. Then it sends back a list of problems and suggestions. You see the results right in your chat, so you can fix things before you commit.
What you can do with it
- Audit your whole repository for architecture and security issues
- Check uncommitted changes for rule violations before you commit
- Get a list of all 16 architectural rules to share with your AI
- Ask for a refactoring plan for a piece of code
- See your codebase health score and violation breakdown
- Use pre-made prompts to review your code against Clean Architecture
Try asking your AI
- “Run a full audit on my repository and tell me what is wrong.”
- “Check my uncommitted changes for any architecture or security problems.”
- “Show me all the rules RepoGuard uses so I can follow them.”
- “Can you suggest a refactoring plan for this file that has a database query in the UI?”
What it gives back to you
RepoGuard gives you a list of violations with rule numbers and descriptions. It also provides a health score from A+ to F and a breakdown by category. For refactoring, it returns a step-by-step plan with before and after suggestions. All of this appears as text in your chat.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
- The Claude desktop app or another AI tool that supports MCP servers
Good to know
RepoGuard reads your code and configuration files, so be careful if you have secrets in files you do not want scanned.
Install it with your AI
Add RepoGuard MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check RepoGuard MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and teams using AI coding assistants who want to keep their code clean and secure.
