FinanceKit MCP server
by vdalhambra
Lets your AI pull stock quotes, crypto prices, technical signals and portfolio breakdowns for you.

FinanceKit is a helper that connects your AI assistant to live market data. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI about a stock, a coin, or your own mix of holdings, and it will go and fetch the numbers for you. It is handy if you follow markets, hold a few investments, or need quick figures without opening five different websites.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one extra skill, in this case a connection to financial market data. When you ask about a ticker or a coin, your AI passes the question to FinanceKit, FinanceKit looks it up, and the answer comes back into your chat. You do not need to know how it works inside, you just talk to your AI like normal.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like how Tesla is doing today or whether Bitcoin looks overbought. Your AI sends that request to FinanceKit, which goes and gets the current price and the recent price history. FinanceKit then runs the usual technical maths on that history, things like RSI and moving averages, and adds a short plain-English read on what the numbers suggest. The result comes back into your chat as a tidy summary you can read in a few seconds.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Look up the current price, daily change and market cap of a stock
- Check crypto prices, trending coins and top coins by market cap
- Run technical analysis on a stock or coin and get a plain-English signal summary
- Compare several tickers side by side on returns, volatility and drawdown
- Analyse a portfolio you type in and see sector mix and concentration risk
- Pull a market overview covering the main indices and the VIX
- Fetch historical price data with basic summary statistics
Try asking your AI
- “What is Apple trading at right now and how has it moved this week?”
- “Run technical analysis on TSLA and tell me in plain words if it looks overbought”
- “Compare AAPL, MSFT and GOOGL over the last six months”
- “Analyse my portfolio: AAPL 50 shares, NVDA 20, MSFT 30, AMZN 10”
What it gives back to you
You get short written answers back in the chat, usually a few lines with the key numbers. For technical analysis you get the indicator values plus a sentence or two explaining what they suggest. For a portfolio you get a total value, a sector breakdown and a note on how concentrated it is. Everything shows up as normal text, so you can copy it into a note or an email.
Before you start
What you need
- An AI app that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or Windsurf
- Nothing else if you use the hosted version, it works without an API key
- If you self-host it, Python and the uv tool installed on your computer
Good to know
This is market data and general analysis, not financial advice, and the numbers come from free public sources so they can be delayed or occasionally wrong.
Install it with your AI
Add FinanceKit MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check FinanceKit MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
