This is a small helper that lets your AI read your iMessage history on a Mac. You can ask it things like what you talked about with someone last week, or when a certain word came up in your texts. It is handy if you use ChatGPT or Claude and want answers about your own messages without scrolling through the app yourself.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot see your messages, your files, or your apps. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, and this one connects it to iMessage on your Mac. Once it is running, your AI can look things up in your message history when you ask, and it can only read, never send or change anything.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about your messages, like who you texted about dinner. Your AI passes that request to this helper program running on your Mac. The helper opens your iMessage database in read-only mode and looks for matching messages, chats, or contacts. It hands the results back to your AI, which turns them into a normal answer in the chat. Everything stays on your computer, and nothing is sent or edited.

What you can do with it

  • Search your messages by a word or phrase
  • Filter messages by a phone number or email address
  • Narrow a search to a date range
  • List your recent messages
  • List all your conversations
  • List all the phone numbers and emails you have messaged
  • Look up a contact in your Mac Contacts and get their number

Try asking your AI

  • “What did I text my sister about last month?”
  • “Show me my 20 most recent messages.”
  • “Find any messages where I mentioned the word invoice.”
  • “What is John Smith's phone number in my contacts?”

What it gives back to you

You get back a list of matching messages, chats, or contacts, shown as text in your chat. Each message usually includes who it was from or to, the date, and the message text. Searches also tell you how many results there are in total and whether there are more pages. Your AI then reads that list and answers your question in plain words.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Mac, because iMessage only exists on macOS
  • Deno 2.x or later installed
  • Permission for the helper to read your Messages database
  • Permission to read your Mac Contacts if you want contact search

Good to know

It can read your private message history and contacts, so only run it on your own Mac and be careful about who else can use the AI you connect it to.

Install it with your AI

Add iMessage MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
