Snowflake MCP server
by YannBrrd
Lets your AI look up and query your Snowflake data, with read-only protection on by default.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Snowflake, the place where your company keeps its data. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI questions in plain English and it will run the lookup for you. It is handy for anyone who needs numbers or tables from Snowflake but does not want to write SQL by hand.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to Snowflake, so it can look up databases, tables and rows for you. You ask in normal words, and the helper does the actual talking to Snowflake.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like which tables exist in a database, or how many orders came in last month. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper connects to Snowflake with your credentials and runs the lookup. Then it hands the result back to your AI, which shows it to you in the chat. By default it only reads data, it does not change anything.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the databases, schemas, tables and views you can access
- Describe the columns and types of a table or view
- Run read-only SQL queries and get rows back
- Read rows from a table or view by name
- Export a picture of your schema as JSON, YAML or SQL
- Save short notes in memory during your session
- Ask the AI to draft a SQL query from a plain-English goal
Try asking your AI
- “List all databases I can see in Snowflake”
- “Show me the columns of the ORDERS table in SALES.PUBLIC”
- “How many rows are in the CUSTOMERS table?”
- “Draft a SQL query that shows total sales per month for last year”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of names, tables of rows, column descriptions, or a short summary. Results can come back as a table, as plain text, or as a file-style block you can copy. If a result is too long, it tells you it was cut off and how to get the next page. It also tells you when it made a change, if write mode is on.
Before you start
What you need
- A Snowflake account with a username, password and account identifier
- A Snowflake role that can read the data you need (a read-only role is safest)
- Python and the uv tool, or Docker if you prefer that route
- The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
Good to know
It can run SQL against your real Snowflake data, so use a read-only role and keep read-only mode on unless you truly need to change data.
Install it with your AI
Add Snowflake MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Snowflake MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who needs answers from Snowflake data but does not write SQL, like analysts, ops staff, finance people and managers.
