AI inventory tool lifts sari-sari store sales by 79 percent in two months
Packworks, a Filipino technology startup, reported that sari-sari stores using AI-driven inventory insights increased median sales of their top 50 products by 79 percent within two months. The company analyzed more than one million monthly transactions across its network of 300,000 micro-retailers to reach these findings.
Median sales for top-performing products climbed from 187,229 pesos to 335,818 pesos per store. Stores also recorded a 29-percent increase in total sales and a 20-percent rise in transaction volume overall.
What the data shows
The Store Insighting Project (SIP) delivers AI-generated recommendations on which products to stock and when to order them. Store owners Elizabeth Veluz and Lucia Bongot both said the recommendations helped them make faster ordering decisions and reduce stockouts of popular items.
Slower-moving inventory saw the biggest gains. Median sales for underperforming products jumped 96 percent, from 7,361.60 pesos to 14,429 pesos, as retailers used SIP data to identify and promote items they could move faster.
Seasonal products-items that sell during rainy periods or weekends-showed a 47-percent sales increase, suggesting the tool helps retailers anticipate demand shifts.
Why this matters for sales teams
The results demonstrate that data analytics, once available only to large retail chains, can now benefit neighborhood retailers competing on thin margins. When store owners know which products to stock and how much, they reduce waste and respond faster to what customers actually want to buy.
Andoy Montiel, Packworks' chief data officer, said the findings show that "when data is democratized, we give grassroots entrepreneurs the power to chart their own growth."
The project received funding through the Department of Science and Technology and support from ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines and Ateneo BUILD, aligning with the Philippine Development Plan's focus on digital transformation in retail.
