Dell Raises Revenue Forecast on Surge in AI Server Sales
Dell boosted its annual revenue and profit expectations Friday after reporting strong first-quarter results driven by customer spending on AI infrastructure. The company now expects AI server revenue of roughly $60 billion for fiscal 2027, up from its prior forecast of $50 billion.
Dell raised its full-year revenue forecast to between $165 billion and $169 billion, a sharp increase from the previous $138 billion to $142 billion range. The company also lifted its annual adjusted earnings per share forecast to $17.90 from $12.90.
First-quarter revenue jumped 88% to $43.84 billion, significantly exceeding analyst estimates of $35.43 billion. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $4.86, beating expectations of $2.94.
Infrastructure Spending Drives Demand
US tech giants including Alphabet and Amazon plan to spend over $700 billion on AI infrastructure this year, fueling demand for server and data center equipment from suppliers like Dell and Super Micro Computer.
Dell's infrastructure solutions group-which includes storage, software, and server offerings-saw quarterly revenue jump 181%. The company's client solutions group, which sells PCs, posted a more modest 17% increase.
Managing Supply Chain Pressure
Dell has navigated the memory chip shortage better than rivals by raising prices and adjusting its supply chain. "We're repricing, it feels like, every day," said Jeff Clarke, Dell's chief operating officer, on an earnings call.
Analysts credit Dell's scale and supplier relationships for helping it gain market share during the shortage. The company's ability to prioritize demand among customers has also given it an edge.
Government Contract Adds to Growth
The US Department of Defense awarded a Dell unit a five-year contract worth $9.7 billion on Wednesday to manage licenses for Microsoft software, adding another revenue stream to the company's expanding business.
