The role ranks above mobile application developers, software developers, and business developers, according to data from over 1 million worker contracts across 37,000 companies.
Smaller Hong Kong companies, by contrast, continue to focus cross-border hiring on software developers, sales managers, and software testers.
The demand for AI skills reflects measurable market momentum. Job postings requiring AI expertise in Hong Kong increased 38% since 2019, now appearing in 4.8% of all postings as of February 2026, up from around 1% in 2022.

Pay growth varies significantly by function. Sales account managers saw the fastest growth at 35.7%, followed by operations managers at 25.7% and software developers at 22.5%.
Business developer compensation declined year-on-year, suggesting companies are restraining pay for exploratory roles while investing in execution-focused positions.
