IIT Guwahati launches robotics and AI postgraduate programme
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is launching a two-year Master of Technology programme in robotics and artificial intelligence. Applications close 15 July 2026, with classes beginning 10 August 2026.
The programme targets both fresh graduates and working professionals through a hybrid model combining online classes, on-campus laboratory sessions, and final examinations. Students can extend their studies up to five years to balance work and academics.
Admission requirements
Applicants need a four-year or five-year bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or a master's degree, with at least 60 per cent marks. Mathematics at Class 12 level is required.
The institute will not require a Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score. Admission decisions will be based on a written test and interview conducted by IIT Guwahati.
Programme structure and curriculum
The curriculum covers robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer vision, and control systems. The programme integrates real-world projects with industry experts to build practical skills.
Students have access to campus facilities for hands-on training and faculty interaction alongside online coursework.
Multiple exit and entry points
The programme offers four credential levels. Students can exit after initial coursework with a postgraduate certificate, after core courses with a postgraduate diploma, or after a capstone project with a Master of Science (Engineering) degree.
Those continuing further can complete a Master of Technology degree. Students who exit early can rejoin after one year to continue their studies.
Career outcomes
Graduates will be prepared for roles including robotics engineer, AI and automation specialist, machine learning engineer, data scientist, and researcher.
Employment opportunities span manufacturing, healthcare, defence, agriculture, and smart infrastructure sectors.
